The central square of medieval Kalmar was located in this place. In connection with the Valnötsträdet block being converted into housing, the square was also given a facelift in collaboration with artists and archaeologists. Below are lots of exciting remains from the Middle Ages.
The squares of smooth stone that you see in the ground are markings of medieval cellars, and the wall of rusty sheet metal is part of the contour of the old church — a church so large that our current cathedral would fit inside it with a good margin! The artwork in cast iron marks the passage between the profane and the ecclesiastical world.
The old cemetery (Gamla Kyrkogården) was built as early as the beginning of the 13th century. There are many different and special graveyards left here.
