Clay, Church and Harbour — Middelfart, Denmark

Welcome to central Middelfart. This circular walk begins at Nytorv, crosses the old town to CLAY, then returns east through the harbour’s maritime landmarks and modern waterfront architecture to finish at KulturØen—only a short walk from where you started.

Along the way, eleven places reveal different kinds of craftsmanship: the ceramicist’s command of earth and fire, medieval brickwork, Renaissance timber framing, terraced gardens, wooden boatbuilding and contemporary architecture shaped by daylight and water.

The route follows part of Middelfart’s official Ceramics Trail and is marked in places by glazed tiles set into the paving. Allow extra time if you plan to enter CLAY or Henner Friisers Hus. Museum and church access can vary, and the waterfront may be slippery in wet or icy weather.
